Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø

Professor Dame Hazel Genn (former Dean of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Faculty of Laws), Director of the Centre for Access to Justice, welcomed the Schreier family, valued supporters of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Laws, for a tour of the redevelopment of  on Tuesday 17 October 2017.

During the tour of the home of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Laws, family members Iris Gibbor and Alexei Schreier were shown the new Gideon Schreier Lecture Theatre, a 98 seat, semi-fixed lecture theatre that can be converted into a primary events, function and exams space. The room has a vaulted ceiling, views over the Moot Court, and is connected to the Student Hub at the very heart of the building.

The new Lecture Theatre has been made possible by the generous donation to the Faculty by the late Sir Bernard Schreier, and is named in memory of Gideon Schreier, Sir Bernard’s son and business partner, who died in 1998.

The new Lecture Theatre continues the family’s legacy with the Faculty, who previously dedicated the former Gideon Schreier Wing in Bentham House. The family joined members of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Laws for the formal opening of the Gideon Schreier Wing in October 2001 by H.R.H. The Princess Royal, Chancellor of the University of London.

Professor Genn said:

‘The Schreier family have long been great friends of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Laws. I’m grateful for their continuous generosity as the Gideon Schreier Lecture Theatre and former Gideon Schreier Wing would not have been possible without their support.

We are delighted at the Faculty’s long lasting association with the family, and it has been a real pleasure to invite them to see the progress of the Gideon Schreier Lecture Theatre, and wider Bentham House development.

We look forward to welcoming the family back to celebrate when the building reopens in 2018’.

Transforming Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø

The redevelopment of Bentham House has been delivered by Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Estates as part of Transforming Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø, the largest capital programme in the university’s history.

Transforming Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø will see substantial investment of over £1.2 billion over a 10-year period to refurbish and develop some of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’s most iconic buildings whilst also bringing forward new world class buildings. Together these will enable and support the University’s continued growth.
