Biostatistics Group a key part of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø REF 2021 submission

The Biostatistics Group at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø was key to the REF 2021 submission following which Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø was ranked top in the UK for research quality in medicine, health and life sciences and second in the UK across all areas.
The Biostatistics Group contributed to three of the seven impact case studies submitted to REF 2021 as part of the Mathematical and Physical Sciences submission, and two of the case studies submitted as part of the School of Life and Medical Sciences submission.
Case studies in which the Biostatistics Group played an important role included:
- research to develop a risk model to predict the chances of sudden cardiac death in people with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
- research to develop effective interventions for family carers of people with dementia
- work to transform treatment for glaucoma patients reducing healthcare costs
- research to improve care for people going through a mental health crisis.
The Biostatistics Group at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø, led by Professor Rumana Omar, designs and analyses health studies and conducts research on statistical methodology needed for the solution of biomedical problems.
The Group, which is part of the Joint Research Office, offers statistical collaboration and advice for biomedical researchers at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍøH and the Royal Free.
