Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø

Derick, who is one of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø SLMS Grand Challenge students, was selected to attend the NIHR Experimental Medicine Research Training Camp.

As a condition of attendance at the Camp, each trainee had to submit an abstract about their research work.Ìý Only 35 were selected for presentation. Derick's prize was one of only 4 poster prizes.

Derick Adigbli's research project is: "Development of Photochemical Internalisation (PCI) as a delivery tool to improve cancer chemotherapy; Photochemical Internalisation (PCI) is a recently developed technique for targeted drug delivery, involving light-activated release of chemotherapy drugs" with Dr Sandy MacRobert from the Research Department of General Surgery at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø.

The focus of the training camp was on the development of a communications plan for a research grant for a fictitious funding body. The poster competition was judged by Professor Jim Neilson (Dean of NIHR Trainees), Dr Denise Best (Academic Careers Manager at Oxford BRU), Margaret Hall and Isobel Boyer (NIHR lay advisors).

The NIHR BRCs at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍøH, Moorfields and Great Ormond Street Hospitals, together with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's School of Life and Medical Sciences provide funding for Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's SLMS Grand Challenge PhD studentship scheme. The scheme is designed to attract researchers with the highest intellectual and scientific skills to the field of Life and Medical Sciences.
