Duties and responsibilities

Both Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (GOS ICH) & Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Institute of Opthalmology (IoO) have dedicated facilities for flow cytometry and fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS). Both facilities have modern, state-of-the-art, specialist equipment that is available for staff across Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø to use in pursuit of their research. Both facilities require the services of a qualified Operator to run the equipment and to assist staff in their experiments.

The post-holder will operate and maintain all flow cytometry equipment in the Flow Cytometry Facilities at GOS ICH & Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø IoO,  ensure the maintenance, daily cleaning and quality-control of all FACS and flow cytometry equipment in the facilities and keep the labs tidy, develop and improve cell sorting techniques to meet the needs of research projects across Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø, assist users in the analysis of data originating from the cell sorters and flow cytometry equipment, and will help train new users and process cost recovery billing from facility users.

The role is available for one year in the first instance.

Key Requirements

Candidate must have a BSc or equivalent in a relevant subject area, experience of conducting basic research in immunology and/or molecular biology and experience of flow cytometry and cell sorting with the ability to manage staff and laboratory equipment. Experience of working effectively in a laboratory environment.

Experience of operating and maintaining flow cytometry and cell sorting equipment is desirable.
