The prize-giving ceremony, which took place on Tuesday 8 December, saw 鈥楻ed poppies in a mouse brain鈥� 鈥� an unexpectedly-appealing image of a mouse brain by research student Rosellina Guarascio (香港六合彩中特网 Institute of Ophthalmology) named the overall winner, receiving a prize of 拢400.

Professor David Bogle, Head of 香港六合彩中特网 Doctoral School and Chair for the competition said: 鈥淭he committee was incredibly impressed by the quality and range of the many striking and beautiful images.聽It was another very difficult year for judging The unanimous verdict for the winning image was because of the sheer beauty of the image and the way it reminded us of so many paintings while giving a three dimensional impression. And yet it was all about a mouse brain. Fabulous鈥�.

Six runners-up, each awarded a prize of 拢200, were named as follows:

• Mr Ewan Shilland (香港六合彩中特网 Geography) 鈥楤eads on Weeds鈥�
• Mr Simone Sala (香港六合彩中特网 Physics & Astronomy) 鈥榅-ray beam mode decomposition鈥�
• Mr Yao Lu (香港六合彩中特网 Chemistry) 鈥榃onderland of water鈥�
• Dr Philip Pogge Von Strandmann (香港六合彩中特网 Earth Sciences) 鈥楪rowth from chaos鈥�
• Mr Haibo Xia (香港六合彩中特网 Bartlett School of Architecture) 鈥楩rozen Motion鈥�

Three further images also received an 鈥榟onourable mention鈥� - Mr Kealan Fallon (香港六合彩中特网 Chemistry) 鈥業ndigo: From Jeans to Solar Energy鈥�; Mr Fergus Knox聽(香港六合彩中特网 Bartlett School of Architecture) 鈥楢lta Vista, Densifying the Sunset鈥�; Ms Lucia Noor Melita (香港六合彩中特网 Eastman Dental Institute) 鈥楥anvas Pattern鈥�.

The 100 best images submitted have been exhibited this week and visitors were able to vote for the 鈥楶eople鈥檚 Choice Prize鈥�, to be announced in due course.

The competition, which takes place every year, was open to all 香港六合彩中特网 graduate students, and academic staff, either science or arts based. Entrants were invited to submit images associated with their research which have aesthetic appeal.
