13 October 2020

香港六合彩中特网 Institute of Education (IOE) alumna Abbie Sedgeman has won a Primary School Teacher of the Year award at the 2020 London Teacher of the Year Awards.

London Teacher of the Year Awards

Abbie, who studied PGCE Primary at the IOE, was announced as the award winner across the boroughs of Camden, Islington and Hackney in an online ceremony held on 9 October.

The events celebrate excellence in the academic year 2019/20 with winners chosen by three judging panels who scrutinised nominations made by colleagues and members of the public between December and March.

The London Teacher of the Year Awards mark the vital contribution that school staff make to the community. The awards recognise the expertise and dedication that is the hallmark of an outstanding teacher. They were organised by a children鈥檚 wellbeing charity, the KM Charity Team, and were hosted by the charity鈥檚 CEO Mike Ward.

Announcing Abbie鈥檚 award, Mr Ward said: 鈥淎bbie is constantly seeking to better herself so that her lessons can have the greatest impact on learning. Not only academics, she pushes for children to develop their personal, social and emotional development, and has been fundamental in making some very vulnerable children feel safe and supported in the school.鈥

Abbie said: 鈥淚 feel honoured to have received this award and it is a testament to the foundation provided to me from the IOE. I also want to thank my colleagues at Mossbourne Parkside for supporting me through an NQT year that none of us could have anticipated! Particularly to Chris James, my NQT mentor, who not only pushed me to be the best I could be, but also listened and trusted my judgement throughout the year.鈥

Mike Ward, CEO of the KM Charity Team, said: 鈥淚t鈥檚 truly heart-warming to watch. Our winners are so humble and so thrilled to be recognised for doing what they consider to be a privilege.

鈥淚 urge everyone to watch the awards. The vast majority of people have no idea of the wonderful work going on every day expanding the horizons and opportunities of young people across the capital.

鈥淟et鈥檚 share some good news in these difficult times.鈥
