Dr Hughes and the Centre for Distance Education (CDE) won the award for designing an online Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.

The CDE is a University of London initiative which supports the development of expertise in the field of distance education. Dr Hughes has been a fellow of the group for 10 years.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education won the award due to its scale and transferability. It is attracting growing numbers of participants from around the world, including teachers in the University of London Teaching Centres. Research about the programme shows it has had a positive impact on participants' educational thinking and practice.

The award was presented to the team by Wendy Thompson, Vice Chancellor of the University of London, and members of Roger Mill鈥檚 family at the Research in Distance Education conference today (Friday 13 March).

Dr Hughes said: 鈥淭he team of academics, learning technologists and editors designed an innovative online course that has already had a huge impact on the participants. My experience of working with such a committed and knowledgeable team was highly stimulating and rewarding.鈥�
