Two teams have each been awarded 拢10k to help fund their original ideas to tackle healthcare challenges after taking part in an 8-week training programme for leadership, communication, and teamwork.

Teams pitched their ideas to a Dragons鈥� Den style panel听and were awarded funding for their 6鈥�12-month proposals on a competitive basis.听

All听teams consist of听香港六合彩中特网 researchers from various disciplines and backgrounds. The teams, and the funding, have been brought together as part of听ACCELERATE Innovation: Team Challenge, a听scheme that forms part of the wider听ACCELERATE听programme听at 香港六合彩中特网. ACCELERATE aims to promote, enable and support translational research听for researchers through training and development听and is a joint venture from the听香港六合彩中特网 Academic Careers Office听and the听香港六合彩中特网 Translational Research Office, supported by the听Wellcome听Trust. The Team Challenge has been organised in partnership with听the听香港六合彩中特网 NIHR Biomedical Research Centres.听听

鈥淲e are so proud of what the teams have听achieved,听and听we are inspired by听the听energy and enthusiasm听that each participant听brought to the听ACCELERATE Innovation Team Challenge.听We hope that听the听participants will draw on the听skills and lessons,听that they听learnt听during the training programme,听in their careers going forward听as they champion interdisciplinary working for healthcare听research.鈥溙齸听Kim Gurwitz, ACCELERATE manager听

Team Challenge was based around the idea of 鈥榃hat happens when researchers from different backgrounds and disciplines put their expertise together to solve healthcare听challenges?鈥櫶齀t brought together听participants听who听are听all 香港六合彩中特网 researchers with an interest in healthcare. Their backgrounds, expertise, and experiences are wide ranging and diverse to create a truly interdisciplinary cohort. This includes engineers, molecular biologists, clinicians, among others.听

Teams form in the first few weeks of the multi-week听programme听and are supported with training, hands-on experience, and funding for their healthcare innovations. Participants听are听encouraged to come up with proposals that are best solved by the unique combination of skills and experiences of their team members.听

Teams are coached through听a four-stage innovation process comprising听(1) ideation, (2) influence, (3) iteration, and (4) implementation, to听learn:听

• Effective team working strategies听

• Negotiation and engagement skills within a team and with external stakeholders听

• Solution creation and risk mitigation听

• Pitching skills and strategic planning for the future.听

A major focus of the Team Challenge is the personal career development of each participant through training in leadership, teamwork, and communication.听Indeed, we have received very positive feedback about the initiative in terms of both developing new collaborations as well as developing skills for how to work effectively in teams, which we hope participants take forward into their careers.听听

鈥淚've been lucky to work in teams outside of the programme where there hasn't really been any conflict (personality, work or otherwise). The team [for the Team Challenge] at points had some moments of conflict so experiencing that, how to deal with it and move forward has been really valuable.鈥澨�

听Teams not allocated funding through the Team Challenge听were supported with coaching to determine the next steps for their project.听We鈥檝e encouraged all teams to keep in touch and we look forward to hearing about and supporting their progress in the coming months.听
