Nadia studied for a BSc in Marine Biology at the University of Portsmouth and then for an MSc in Freshwater and Coastal Sciences at the University College London. In 2015 she completed her PhD with the Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and Bangor University. During her PhD, she was awarded a NERC fellowship in Parliament writing a policy brief on the environmental impacts of tidal barrages. Prior to her PhD, she coordinated IUCN extinction risk assessments while employed at ZSL.
Her PhD research looked at the use of local informant data for studying the poorly known Ganges River dolphin in Bangladesh, as well as producing an up-to-date population estimate using capture-recapture. During her research, she developed an interest in the use of citizens as local environment monitors and established a small community monitoring group to collect data on dolphin mortalities. At the moment she is working on the European H2020-funded Doing It Together Science (DITOS) project, a project involving 11 European partners which aims听to increase European engagement with citizen science.
Her research interests include: addressing issues of inclusion in science, citizen science as a tool for addressing human-wildlife conflict and environmental data deficiencies, and optimising ethics procedures in participatory research.
