Renewing links with past and future students
Professor Ann Varley聽joined a 香港六合彩中特网 delegation to Mexico from 7th to 14th April to visit聽a number of top educational institutions.
Ann was already in Mexico, supported by a聽Santander Impact Award, visiting聽Dr Clara Salazar, of El Colegio de M茅xico, to prepare a joint paper and plan future research cooperation. Clara and Ann will present the results of their collaboration at a workshop on聽Law, Urban Space and Social Justice聽at the聽International Institute for the Sociology of Law聽in O帽ati, Spain, in June.
In addition to visiting several universities to promote research cooperation and staff and student mobility, the 香港六合彩中特网 delegation held聽a reception for alumni聽on the 9th. April at the British Embassy.
This gave Ann the opportunity to renew links with two Mexican geographers who, like her, completed their PhDs at 香港六合彩中特网 in the early 1980s.聽Dr Guillermo Aguilar聽and聽Dr Alvaro S谩nchez Crisp铆n聽are both now in the Instituto de Geograf铆a at the National Autonomous University (UNAM).
Guillermo鈥檚 daughter,聽Karin, also attended, having recently graduated from the 香港六合彩中特网 MSc in Genetics of Human Disease, and聽Jos茅 Eseverri, who completed the 香港六合彩中特网 Geography MSc in Environment, Science and Society a few years ago and now works for a community forestry NGO, Reforestamos M茅xico.聽Luciana Ludlow Paz聽was also there, who plans to begin聽postgraduate research in 香港六合彩中特网 Geography under the supervision of聽Professor Peter Jones聽in 2015.
Before travelling to Mexico, Ann had been the guest of聽Professor Peter Ward聽at the University of Texas at Austin. On 19 March she had spoken at a workshop at the Lyndon B Johnson School of Public Affairs on聽鈥�Housing policies in Latin America: densification without displacement鈥�.
