Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø spinout Odin Vision receives funding to accelerate detection of bowel cancer

10 September 2020

Odin Vision has been awarded £1 million UK Government funding. This will support further testing and development of its artificial intelligence (AI) technology, which helps doctors detect and characterise early signs of bowel cancer.

The funding, from NIHR (National Institute for Health Research), is part of a new programme to accelerate the testing of cutting-edge AI technologies in the NHS.

Odin Vision’s pioneering AI system is based on the academic research of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø AI experts, led by Professor Danail Stoyanov (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Computer Science and Wellcome / EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø).

Detecting bowel cancer using traditional colonoscopy methods can be challenging and up to 25% of polyps are missed. Odin Vision’s AI system identifies and characterises polyps by analysing live colonoscopy video, leading to early treatment of bowel cancer and saving lives. It will be used in a number of UK hospitals to test its impact on patient outcomes and cost benefits to the NHS.

Odin Vision has previously received support from the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Technology Fund (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍøTF). It was also one of the first Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø spinouts to benefit from Portico Ventures, a commercialisation model from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Business (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍøB), part of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Innovation & Enterprise. Portico Ventures aims to give Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø researchers more freedom to take their ideas to market through spinouts.
