Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø

This workshop, arranged by the Centre for Critical Heritage Studies Archives Cluster in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Sciences (KUV) at the University of Gothenburg marked the 40th anniversary of the first publication in Sweden of Sven Lindqvist’s seminal manual to empower workers (and others) to research and write their own histories Gräv där du stÃ¥r (Dig Where You Stand (DWYS)) in 1978. Organised by Astrid von Rosen and Catharina Thörn from the University of Gothenburg, it was attended by Alda Terracciano and Andrew Flinn from Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø as well as other artists and scholars from the UK and Sweden, including Monica Sand, Sarah Turner and Marsha Meskimmon. In the first session each participant presented their own responses to Dig Where You Stand and a general discussion ensued over its historicity and resonances today. After the opportunity to attend a public panel discussion with Stefan Jonsson, Catharina Thörn and Astrid von Rosen again celebrating the 40th anniversary of DWYS in the evening of 26th, the workshop recommenced the following day with longer presentations from each of the participants on aspects of their current research as seen through the prism of the approaches and methods outlined in Dig. This workshop sits within a larger programme of continuing work on Dig Where you Stand undertaken by the Archives Cluster of the Center for Critical Heritage Studies and as such we also discussed future research and publication plans, including endeavours to get the full text published in English for the first time in 2019.Ìý
