SIOPe Meeting in conjunction with CCI-Europe and BENCHISTA Session, 12th May 2023听

The International Benchmarking of Childhood Cancer Survival by Stage, also known as the BENCHISTA Project, had an open session held on-site in conjunction with CCI-Europe and SIOPe clinical trial group leads in Valencia, Spain. The session aimed to invite participating representatives to听discuss efforts to understand variation in childhood cancer survival rates between countries.听

First in-person meeting of the Project Working Group, 19th-20th June 2023

The BENCHISTA team听held its first in-person meeting at the Aula Magna at the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori (INT) in Milan, Italy. The meeting gathered members of the Project Working Group, tumour-specific clinical experts, parent/patient/public and funder representatives, and members of the Advisory Board. An overview of the preliminary results of the project and further discussion among on-site and online attendees took place. Further discussion regarding the strengths, limitations and challenges was held among participants.听

ENCR 2023 IACR Scientific Conference听and Project Working Group Meeting - 14th-16th November 2023

Members of the BENCHISTA team attended the听ENCR 2023 IACR Congress held in Granada, Spain. The team had an opportunity to present the most updated results of the BENCHISTA Project in an oral session.听

A second on-site session to meet members of the Project Working Group, key representatives and other members outside of the BENCHISTA project was also held at the ENCR 2023 IACR Conference. The meeting was a great chance to see each other again, further discuss the updated results and progress of the project, and听meet representatives from other cancer registries around the world.听

Grant Opportunity for all European Cancer Registries

To support quality improvement of cancer registry data feeding the European Cancer Information System

The International Benchmarking of Childhood Cancer Survival project, (BENCHISTA) is a successful research collaboration between 67 population-based cancer registries (CRs) within and outside Europe, aimed to 听better understanding of the reasons underlying variation in childhood cancer survival between countries and regions. Following the launching of a to Member State Authorities focused on cancer registration and the European Cancer Information System (ECIS), the BENCHISTA project encourages all cancer registries鈥 representatives to review this major opportunity.听

The European Commission is launching a direct grant to Member State Authorities with special focus on cancer registration and the European Cancer Information System (ECIS). Under the EU4Health programme, the Commission is co-financing a project 鈥渢o support quality improvement of cancer registry data feeding the European Cancer Information System鈥, more information in the of the European Network of Cancer Registries鈥 website.

The BENCHISTA project encourages all cancer registries鈥 representatives to review this major opportunity. We ask that you discuss with your registry director the possibility of addressing childhood cancer as a 鈥榰se case鈥 for quality improvement in the work plan of the direct grant, building on BENCHISTA鈥檚 experience. Each registry will need to engage with their national competent health authority to highlight this interest, to encourage national participation once听 the relevant competent authority for participation in the direct grant is identified.
