Established in the autumn of 2020, the ICH REG considers the challenges of inequality towards people who听experience racism听at GOS ICH and assists in formulating and implementing actions to address these. There is听representation from across the GOS ICH community of staff and students with representation of different job roles, Departments and ethnicities. The elected Chair and Co-Chair sit on the Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee and report directly into the GOS ICH Institute Management Team.

Aims and Objectives:

To consider issues around ethnic inequality within GOS ICH especially that experienced by Black staff as it has been documented that this group experience a greater level of racial inequality听

"The REG is working with the ICH Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion Team to identify potential areas of concern in the institute鈥檚 policies, procedures and practices. We have implemented changes in recruitment policies at ICH, raised awareness of race equity, cultural diversity and cultural intelligence, and are developing and supporting practical solutions to address these areas of concern. We are also (systematically) gathering data on EDI at ICH to understand future trends and the impact of new policies. I am really proud to be part this group, supporting the implementation of institutional processes which make sure that ICH continues to be an inclusive space to work and study.鈥�

"I am passionate about championing race equality. I believe that race and racism remain huge barriers in achieving equality in the workplace. We have only scratched the surface and there is a huge amount of work to be done in this area. Having worked as a teacher and a home school worker in underprivileged schools, I bring insight which I can use to contribute to discussions within this group."

"I believe it is vital that we take proactive steps to help encourage the next generation of scientists to join our incredible field, especially from communities who may otherwise be overlooked. Working in academia, particularly at 香港六合彩中特网, is an incredibly unique experience. We are fortunate to be surrounded by individuals with diverse ethnicities, cultures and languages, but I feel that more can be done to celebrate and bring awareness to this. There is no place for racial prejudice and inequality in 2023."

I have encountered first-hand the challenges and disparities that individuals from diverse backgrounds face within educational environments. I am motivated by the desire to support individuals who also have diverse backgrounds and aspire to pursue academic careers but face barriers such as lack of representation or feelings of imposter syndrome. My commitment to equity in higher education stems from my belief that everyone deserves an equal opportunity to thrive and succeed."
