Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø presentation accessibility checklist

The Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø presentation has gone through rigorous accessibility testing and is fully accessible. When you're adding department information to the template slides, follow the checklist below.

Reading order

Check the reading order in the accessibility panel:

  • Mac: View > Accessibility > Selection Pane
  • Windows:ÌýReview tab > select the Check Accessibility dropdown > Reading Order Pane
This shows the layer order which can be amended by dragging and dropping items listed. This will also affect the visual order in terms of which objects are in front or behind others.

Be aware that the reading order differs between Mac and PC. On a Mac, the reading order is shown as bottom first > top last, but on a PC the reading order is top first > bottom.

Characters and symbols

  • Avoid superscript, subscript, or using quotation marks for visual effect, as a screen reader will read aloud this punctuation.
  • Avoid carriage/soft returns/line breaks for layout – adjust the size of the text box instead.
  • Symbols that are read correctly include: %
  • ALT text:
Don’t use colons or carriage/soft returns/line breaks as it affects the way a screen reader speaks the words. Use commas to separate list items within the ALT text, not bullet points.

Images

When to ‘Mark as decorative’:

  • Move images to the end of the reading order/mark as decorative where possible.
  • If crediting an image, mark the text box with the information on the slide as decorative (so it can be read by the eye but won’t be picked up by a screen reader). Then add the credit information to the end of the image ALT text as well so it is more connected to the image and read here via screen reader.

Background colour

  • The ‘white’ background is 1% black tint (#FCFCFC) to reduce contrast slightly.
