The evolution of Eocene planktonic foraminifera Dentoglobigerina

We find that Dentoglobigerina evolved 鈭�4 million years earlier than previously documented, with the species Dentoglobigerina pseudovenezuelana and 鈥楧entoglobigerina鈥� eotripartita recorded in middle Eocene, Zone E9.
Our findings suggest that there are two distinct lineages: (1)聽Dentoglobigerina, encompassing the species聽D. pseudovenezuelana听补苍诲听D. galavisi聽as a descendant of聽Subbotina; and (2) 鈥�Dentoglobigerina鈥� (including 鈥�D.鈥櫬�eotripartita) as a descendant of聽Acarinina. Our results contribute to a better understanding of聽Dentoglobigerina聽biostratigraphy, phylogeny and evolution, and have implications for taxonomy.
