Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø ISR continues to grow in 2014

The Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Institute for Sustainable Resources (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø ISR) continued to grow its international reputation in 2014 with further successes in teaching, research and its partnerships.Ìý

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø ISR’s achievements in 2014, build on its strong performance over the past three years, which have contributed to The Bartlett Faculty and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’s successful results in the REF2014, announced today.

Highlights from 2014 include:

  • The MSc in the Economics and Policy of Energy and the Environment (EPEE) is now in its second academic year. With over 50 registered students in year one, and around 80 students this year, it is now among Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’s most successful recently introduced Masters courses.
  • In May 2014 the Research Councils’ Energy Programme funded Phase 3 of the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC), with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø again as a Core Partner, as it was in Phase 2. Paul Ekins, Professor of Resources and Environmental Policy and Director of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Institute for Sustainable Resources, was appointed Deputy Director of UKERC’s Phase, which will run until 2019.
  • In November 2014 the ESRC has announced funding for an ISR-led international collaboration project on the green economy with Chinese and European researchers, called SINCERE (SINo-european Circular Economy and Resource Efficiency). PI is Prof. Dr. Raimund Bleischwitz.
  • Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø ISR has framework or other consultancy contracts with the European Commission’s DG Environment and with the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change
  • Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø ISR is closely engaged with the international public bodies such as the European Commission, the OECD, the United Nations Environment Programme and the Global Green Growth Knowledge Partnership.
  • Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø is one of the Pioneering Universities of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and is working with the Foundation on the realisation of various aspect of the circular economy.
  • 2014 saw the publication of the book: Philip Andrews-Speed, Raimund Bleischwitz, Tim Boersma, Corey Johnson, Geoffrey Kemp, Stacy VanDeveer 2014 Want, waste, or war? The Global Resource Nexus and the Struggle for Land, Energy, Food, Water and Minerals, Earthscan, London
