The direction of economic growth: from market fixing to market shaping


Lecturer's AbstractÌý

Economic growth has not only a rate but also a direction. That direction is an outcome of how different actors come together to co-shape and co-create markets. And yet economic theory limits the role of the public sector to only ‘fixing’ markets. The talk will reflect on how public value can influence the way in which public purpose is used to co-create markets, in particular through a ‘mission-oriented’ approach


BiographyÌýÌý

Ìý(PhD)Ìýis Professor in the Economics of Innovation and Public Value at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø,Ìýand is Founder and Director of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Institute for Innovation & Public Purpose (IIPP).ÌýShe advises policy makers around the world on innovation-led inclusive growth, including a special advisory role to the EC.

She is winner of the 2014Ìý, the 2015 Hans-Matthöfer-Preis, and the 2018 Leontief Prize for Advancing the Frontiers of Economic Thought. She was named as one of the '' by the New Republic.Ìý

Her highly-acclaimed book ÌýwasÌýon theÌý2013 Books of the YearÌýlist of theÌý. Her new book has just been released.Ìý It has been shortlisted for this year’s .
