Reporting to Tim Williams, the Principal Investigator, the Research Fellow will undertake a number of activities to support the documentation, digitisation and open access dissemination of archeological information from across the vast Central Asian region. The project will draw together archaeological data from existing archives, country-based monument records, remote-sensing, field surveys, and other research databases, to create a Historic Environment Record for the whole region.

The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the authorship of papers and reports on a diverse range of Central Asian archaeological and heritage related topics and themes. The Research Fellow will also assist the project team in assessing the impact of the project, and with the intellectual design and logistical support of a series of planned workshops across the region.

The post is available until 30 September 2023 (in the first instance).

The Research Fellow will have a PhD in archaeology or a related field. They will have demonstrated knowledge of and research experience in Central Asian archaeology. They will have experience in computational and/or digital approaches in archaeology and in remote sensing and GIS (ideally ArcGIS, and/or QGIS). They will also have experience in archaeological field documentation and in using and maintaining databases. They will also have the proven ability to undertake research of the highest quality, with a strong publications record for the career stage.
