Students take on global challenges on our Global Citizenship programme

Principal theme: Integration of research and education

Our two-week Global Citizenship Programme is one of the highlights of the 香港六合彩中特网 calendar.

This year 700 students took part in the programme. They had the opportunity to hear speakers from the World Health Organisation, the Centre for Education Rights and Transformation, and the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa.

But the programme is also about learning through doing, and offers students a number of options to tackle global challenges.听

The Global Environmental Justice strand simulated a UN-style conference. Students made opening statements on behalf of nation states, and then participated in a negotiating exercise. The proceedings were filmed by a 鈥榤edia group鈥 of students with the help of 香港六合彩中特网 documentary film maker Dieter Deswarte:

Those who took the Enterprise strand听worked with social entrepreneurs to pitch a business idea, while those on the Danube strand examined the historical, cultural, political and social aspects of the countries along the river and learned a Danubian language.听

The Active Citizenship strand gave students the opportunity to work with Amnesty International, Citizens UK and other campaigners to find a constructive solution to a community problem.

" It鈥檚 not the sort of thing I would normally have done.听I鈥檓 not into group work, but it has changed my outlook and galvanised me into doing something with my career that will make a positive difference.鈥澨Alice Godmon, 香港六合彩中特网 Human Sciences student.

Some elements of the programme were designed to help students with their听job applications, and as part of the Health in Future Cities strand,听former BBC journalist Rosie Bartlett ran听a mock press conference on Polio.
