Getting families involved at Spark Festival

Principal theme: Accessible and publicly-engaged

The first Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø festival at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park was held on the 2015 August bank holiday.

We showcased the range of innovative thinking at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø, encouraging visitors to interact with Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø research. We also raised awareness among staff about novel ways to engage with the public.

Families with children from local east London boroughs were our main audience, and the festival drew in more than 3,000 people.

Eighty-three percent of people who attended said that the festival met their expectations, and many commented on the festival’s educational value as a gateway to engaging children with science and technology.Ìý

The atmosphere and the range of research set an educational, beneficial and inspiring precedent for the future of Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø public engagement and Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’s endeavour to create strong, impactful relationships with, and opportunities for, communities in east London.Ìý
