Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø has been certified for having an effective environmental management system that ensures limited negative environmental impact and sets examples for best practice during its annual ISO audit.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’sÌýEnvironmentalÌýÌýSustainabilityÌýManagement SystemÌý(ESMS)ÌýÌýand Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’s Energy Management SystemÌý(EnMS)Ìýhelp Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø ensure that we are limiting our environmental impactsÌýrangingÌýfrom sustainable materials use,Ìýto energy efficiency and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and consumption.ÌýThe systems provide a structured approach to deliverÌýourÌýSustainabilityÌýStrategyÌýcommitments, includingÌýbecoming a net zero carbon institution by 2030.ÌýÏã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø is assessed every year against theÌýassessment criteria and needs to show continuous improvement in its environmental sustainability and energy performance to maintain certifications.Ìý

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’s Environmental Management System has been certified to since 2017, whilst Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’s Energy Management System was created and certified to in 2019. This year, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø was successfully re-certificated toÌýthe international standard for environmental and energy management calledÌýISO 140001 Environmental Management & ISO 50001 Energy Management,Ìýfor another 3 years, following aÌý7-dayÌýrecertification audit.

This year Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø showed exceptionalÌýperformanceÌýand impact management in threeÌýareas that the auditor identified as "Best Practice". These where:ÌýÌý

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø uses anÌýinnovativeÌýBuilding Energy Management SystemÌý(BEMS) software,Ìýused by Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø’s BEMS contractor Kendra Energy,Ìýwhich proactively identifiesÌýopportunitiesÌýtoÌýmakeÌýenergy savingsÌýand reduceÌýenergy costs.Ìý22 Gordon StreetÌýis a greatÌýexample of thisÌýapproach,Ìýwith the software pilot identifying potential energy savings even in a relatively new building.Ìý

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø's soft landings process ensures that the project team working on a building considers how thisÌýbuildingÌýwill be used once handed over to its occupants.ÌýThereÌýareÌý6 key stepsÌýto this.ÌýThis process ensures that sustainabilityÌýobjectivesÌýare part of theÌýinitialÌýdesignÌýand the sustainabilityÌýperformanceÌýis tested after occupancy,Ìýe.g.ÌýtestingÌýenergy efficiency targets of building against actual performanceÌýin operation.Ìý
