Queen's Birthday Honours for the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø community

Congratulations to the members of the Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø community who have been recognised in the 2015 Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Helen Cross

Professor Judith Cross (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Institute of Child Health) has received an OBE for services to children with epilepsy. Professor Cross's research centres on early onset complex epilepsy, with a particular focus on outcomes and the role of intervention. She has also edited four books, including a definitive childhood epilepsy text and a ketogenic diet cookery book.

Professor Cross said: "Huge progress has been made in the diagnosis and management of epilepsy over the past 20 years. This has required national and international collaboration, as well as constant translation to clinical practice. This award is a great honour, and which I dedicate to all the children with epilepsy with whom I have had contact over the years, who continue to teach us so much more and for whom we strive for better outcome".

Dr Helen Chatterjee (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Genetics, Evolution & Environment and Head of Research and Teaching in Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Public & Cultural Engagement) has been awarded a MBE for services to Higher Education and Culture.

Dr Chatterjee's award-winning research on museums and health attracted one of the largest ever Research Councils UK grants for arts-in-health research, and is sector-leading in measuring the value of cultural interactions.

Dr Chatterjee said: "I am extremely honoured to be included in the Queen's Birthday Honours List and very grateful to all of my colleagues at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø, who are so supportive and collegiate. I am indebted to Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø for nominating me, and encouraging me to pursue interdisciplinary areas of research and for valuing teaching innovations."

Professor Ian Weller (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Infection & Population Health) has been knighted for his services to HIV research. Professor Weller is an Emeritus Professor of Sexually Transmitted Diseases & HIV at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø, vice chair of the UK's Commission of Human Medicines, chairman of the International Congress on Drug Therapy in HIV infection and the chair of steering committees for international clinical trials and observational studies.

Visiting Professor Greg Clark (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Science, Technology, Engineering & Public Policy) has received a CBE for his contribution to international work on urban economic development. Clark is a member the City Leadership Initiative at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø STEaPP and is co-chair of its Advisory Board.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø alumni, former staff and honorary degree holders represented in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours list include:

  • Patrick Head (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø BEng Mechanical Engineering 1970 and Honorary Fellow) - Knights Bachelor for services to motorsport.
  • John Mason (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø MPhil Town Planning 1980) - CBE for public service to Business and Major Events.
  • Philippa Glanville (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø DIP Archive Studies 1966) - OBE for services to the decorative arts and arts heritage.
  • Dr Elizabeth Goodwin (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø BSc Chemistry 1983) - OBE for services to business resource efficiency and the environment.
  • Sharon Gray (NPQH Nat Prof Qual for Headship 2004, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Institute of Education) - OBE for services to education.
  • Ernest Hecht (Honorary Fellow 2006) - OBE for services to publishing and to charity.
  • Professor Linda Newson (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø BA Geography 1967 & PhD Geography 1972) - OBE for services to Latin American Studies.
  • Dr Fiona Swerdlow (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø BSc Genetics 1975 & MBBS Medicine 1978) - OBE for services to Public Health.
  • Jacob Tompkins (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø BSc Civil & Environmental Engineering 1989) - OBE for services to Water Efficiency.
  • Sharon Bell (Special Course, Education 2010, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø Institute of Education) - MBE for services to Early Years Education.
  • Roger Geffen (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø MSc Transport 1998) - MBE for services to Cycling.
  • Dr Lionel Kopelowitz (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø MBBS 1951) - MBE for services to interfaith relations.
  • Sir Nicholas Macpherson (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø MSc Economics 1982) - GCB for public service.
  • Lord Harry Woolf (Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²ÊÖÐÌØÍø LLB 1954, Fellow and Honorary Degree Holder) - CH for services to the public and community relations.
