Awarded the compensation for the St Clair estate in Trinidad (owned by Richard and Maria Bridgen, both of whom q.v.) as judgement creditor.  

1. Probably the widow of James Safe, 'Garrison surgeon of His Majestys forces island of Trinidad' whose will was proved 14/11/1818.

2. In 1871 Eliza Safe aged 83 widow born Scotland 'Officer's widow receiving pension' was living at Nelson house Broadwater, Worthing Sussex, apparently as a boarder (although no relationship is stated), with her unmarried daughter Emma aged 45 (also born Scotland). If the age of the daughter is correct, this could not be a child of James Safe above. In 1841 Eliza Safe aged 50 born S[cotland] was living at Prospect Place St Margaret's Westminster. The Eliza Safe widow late of 14 New Bridge street Blackfriars who died at Boulogne 05/02/1886 and whose will was proved 23/03/1886 by Thomas Rowley Safe the son, effects £1115 15s 8d, would have been 98 years old if it she is same woman.

Trinidad no. 1456A. T71/894 Claim by Richard Bridgen and Maria Bridgen 'Port of Spain', owners-in-fee. Counterclaim from Eliza Safe, of the City of London, by a judgement and execution dated 4th and 9th March 1835 Capital £1500. Other counterclaims withdrawn, including Reid and Dixon as assignees of Manning & Anderdon. T71/1611 letter from H.Murray 35 Sackville Place re no.1456: 'it is in hope of serving a poor widow lady named Safe with a large family and whose all is invested in that property.' Eliza Safe b. about 1805 probably dau. of James Safe, navy surgeon [net:care].

2. 1841 and 1871 censuses online; National Probate Calendar 1886. Thomas R. Safe was born 1811 in Malta of British parents [1891 and 1901 censuses online], which would be consistent with a peripatetic career for James Safe the naval surgeon.
