Slave-owner in Jamaica. His trustees reported for Chatham estate in St James, Jamaica 1772-1775.

Edward Spence contributed 拢23 15s to the University of Pennsylvania following Dr John Morgan's fundraising tour of the West Indies in 1772-1773.

Edward Spence of Hanover, Esquire. Estate probated in Jamaica in 1776. Slave-ownership at probate: 80 of whom 42 were listed as male and 38 as female. 0 were listed as boys, girls or children. Total value of estate at probate: 拢6079.96 Jamaican currency of which 拢5085 currency was the value of enslaved people. Estate valuation included 拢0 currency cash, 拢73.31 currency debts and 拢5 currency plate.
