Rowland Ryley

1763 - 1865

Claimant or beneficiary

Biography

London fishmonger, counterclaimed apparently unsuccessfully on the Hermitage estate in Grenada as grantee of an annuity of 拢185 18s secured by assignment of legacy bequeathed by will of James Baillie: the Register of Claims identifies him as Rowland Ryley, 3 Orange Street, Red Lion Square. To date the origin of the assignment of the legacy to him has not been traced: there is no obvious family connection and it might have been a private credit arrangement.

  1. In the 1841 census Rowland Ryley fishmonger aged 58 is shown at Orange Street. He was still at 3 Orange Street in the Electoral Register of 1865. He died aged 82 in April 1865.
