Congratulations to CDT student Fiona Young who was selected as runner up in the Smith Institute鈥檚 annual TakeAIM competition with the entry title 鈥業ntraoperative diffusion MRI for improving brain surgery鈥�.聽 Fiona attended the award ceremony at the Smith Centre in the Science Museum in South Kensington on 23rd March.

Established in 2011, the Smith Institute鈥檚 annual TakeAIM competition is an opportunity for university students to showcase their work on the industrial stage. TakeAIM鈥檚 goal is to highlight the crucial role mathematics plays in solving real-world problems while rewarding the academic exploration of future innovators who undertake pioneering research.

Commenting on the prize Fiona said 鈥淚t was really wonderful to be recognised with this award, the standard of the other three finalists was incredibly impressive so it was an honour to be included. I had a lovely time at the ceremony meeting the Smith Institute team and representatives from across industry, and especially enjoyed presenting my research to a brand new audience!鈥�
