Nick Gallent Elected to the Academy of Social Sciences

The Bartlett School of Planning's Professor Nick Gallent聽has been聽elected to the very prestigious聽聽in recognition of his contribution to the social sciences as a leading researcher in the field of UK housing planning,聽especially with reference to affordable housing and rural communities.

Nick is one of four prominent planners newly elected as Fellows of the Academy. Commenting on the announcement of the new fellows,聽Janet Askew, President of 聽the Royal Town Planning Institute, said: "The election of these four distinguished RTPI members to the Academy of Social Sciences demonstrates the high regard that they are held in by their peers, and the key role that planning plays within the social sciences. The Academy plays an invaluable role in raising the profile of the social sciences and we are therefore delighted that Nick, Genie, Kelvin聽and Ya Ping have joined it to foster further multidisciplinary exchange and ensure high quality in planning research and professional development鈥.

The Academy of Social Sciences

is the national academy of academics, learned societies and practitioners in the social sciences. Its mission is to promote聽聽in the United Kingdom for the public benefit. The Academy is composed of around 1000聽, 41聽, and a number of聽, together representing nearly 90,000 social scientists. Fellows聽are distinguished scholars and practitioners from academia and the public and private sectors. Most of the Learned Societies in the social sciences in the UK聽are represented within the Academy.
